Art Address is excited to invite you to meet Qamar Bharoocha Bana, a visiting artist from Karachi, as she introduces her debut book, Chaska Galleon Ka, a collection of photographs documenting her love for Karachi’s street life, and it’s humanity through her sensitive lens.
About Qamar Bharoocha Bana: Born in Mumbai, Qamar was raised in many parts of the subcontinent - Pakistan, India, Burma and Bangladesh. In her early teens, her parents gifted her a Rolleiflex box camera which opened up a whole new world for her. Intermitted phases of Photographing her brother, family events, and travel gradually turned into a very serious hobby. Her works have been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions in Delhi, Germany, Istanbul, and Nairobi. Her work is both narrative and documentary, finding herself moved by colour, form, texture, and emotional resonance. About the book: Chaska Galleon Ka is a visual journey through Karachi’s street through the eyes of an artist. Segmented into relatable themes - faces, food, colour, among many others - the photographs are accompanied by insightful commentary from the author herself, tinged with optimistic nostalgia. Chaska is at once an extended chronicle and a momentary snapshot in time, encapsulating The City of Lights for those separated from it by time and space, it’s enough to reignite a zest for the streets.
